Senior Molecular Genetics Research Scientist

Position Description

SRC is seeking a senior molecular genetics research scientist for current efforts in our Advanced Technology Initiative program. The effort is expected to be primarily a senior laboratory research position, and also includes significant efforts in data research and analysis. This position will also have some laboratory task management responsibilities.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to

* Conduct molecular biology research in a state-of-the art laboratory using real time PCR instrumentation, automated microsatellite analysis instrumentation (either capillary electrophoresis or polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis based instrumentation) and robotic support platforms
* Produce, maintain and use genomic libraries
* Review, analysis and evaluation of DNA sequence data for nucleic acid based assay development
* Database use - for manipulation/analysis of collected and generated assessed nucleic acid data
* Communicate results, findings and generate reports regarding findings
* Laboratory task and team support and management

Position Requirements

* Possess a doctorate degree in plant biology, botany, plant systematics, plant ecology, molecular ecology, plant molecular biology, bioinformatics, biotechnology, DNA forensics or related fields and three or more years of experience
* Proficiency in laboratory settings, including skills in relevant scientific and technical data collection, review, analysis and organization
* Relevant knowledge of, expertise in, and hands-on experience in each of the following; real time PCR, microsatellite analysis (capillary electrophoresis and/or PAGE) and genomic library construction and use
* High familiarity with real-time PCR platforms
* High familiarity with microsatellite analysis analytical equipment, especially capillary electrophoresis and/or PAGE instrumentation
* Knowledge and use of general molecular biology laboratory equipment is also required (centrifuges, biosafety cabinets, etc.)
* Appropriate course work, training and experience in molecular biology, genetics, plant systematics and statistics
* Experience in developing testable hypotheses and appropriate experience in experimental design
* Strong quantitative mathematical analysis skills
* Familiar with following and implementing appropriate good laboratory practices, or GLP, and/or ISO standards in research
* Be able to work independently and as part of a team
* Demonstrated experience and success in overseeing and guiding research scientists
